This month Sydney Theatre Company’s Marketing Manger, Campaigns and new WBAC Committee member (Retail/Arts Chair), Gabrielle Keen, talks about her role, what’s coming up at STC and what she loves about Walsh Bay.

“I have been with Sydney Theatre Company as Marketing Manager, Campaigns since May of 2015. In this position I look after all the single ticket campaigns for all STC shows. This involves advertising, print, design, distribution, partnerships and promotions and direct mail,” Gabrielle says.

“What I love most about what I do is seeing work get off the ground- from its initial conception as a draft script, right through to seeing it on stage in its full glory. The workings of a theatre company are truly amazing and it’s so special to be able to go on this journey with the creative team as they finesse their works.

In marketing we get to really pull apart a play and dissect what it says, what it means and how audiences will be able to connect and relate to it. This is by far the most fascinating part but also can be the most challenging!”

Always juggling a full schedule, the STC has plenty of events coming up in 2017 but bringing an all-time favourite Aussie movie to the stage in Walsh Bay is stealing most headlines.

“STC has a range of exciting things happening in 2017 but perhaps the most widely known is that in November we are presenting Muriel’s Wedding, The Musical. The iconic Australian film has been transformed into a laugh-out-loud musical by the film’s original writer/director PJ Hogan and there is an exciting soundtrack of original music by Kate Miller Heidke and Keir Nuttall. This is a major event for STC and will undoubtedly see many new, fresh faces on the shores of Walsh Bay.”

Joining the WBAC Committee as Retail/Arts Chair in 2017 Gabrielle has a clear goal for the business community along with a desire to cement Walsh Bay’s place iconic visitor destination.

“I think it’s very important that the Walsh Bay community continue to talk to one another and to collaborate. I hope to help bridge the communication gap and continue to help local businesses learn, grow and develop.

Walsh Bay is the most beautiful spot in Sydney! And what’s a real shame is that it is still very much unknown to many Sydneysiders. I would like to help get Walsh Bay on the map so that we can all share in the beauty that our amazing.”
