This month we introduce Kate Steinweg, SWF’s Program Manager - a post she has held for the past eighteen months.

“ I work closely with the Artistic Director to select the guests and curate the events for the Festival. I am also in charge of the logistical side of the authors’ experience,” Kate says.

Although SWF’s enduring success is based on the quality and breadth of festival guests, the interesting and challenging topics covered and a whole lot of hard work by the festival team, Kate is smitten with Walsh Bay as a venue.

“I think one of the most special things is the (SWF) location – the atmosphere down at the wharf is buzzing during the Festival. The eclectic variety of guests and events is also irresistibly exciting for anyone who likes books and ideas. I feel lucky to come to work and see hundreds of people who have come here especially just to see the harbour that I walk by every day. The beauty of Sydney never gets old for me.”

Asked to nominate what festival guest/s she is most excited by this year Kate suggests podcast hosts Starlee Kine and PJ Vogt while an audience with critic and memoirists Vivian Gornick and Ann Goldstein – Elena Ferrante’s translator, is also much anticipated.
And the thing that most inspires her most on the job?

“Reading books I would never have thought to pick up, and working with a fun, capable team who love what they do and seeing the city’s insatiable appetite for smart conversation.”
