In this month’s member profile, we chat to The Song Company’s new General Manger, Tim Carter.

After stints in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, joining Australia’s leading vocal ensemble located in the Walsh Bay precinct just over a month ago marks a welcomed return to industry for the recently appointed company head.

“I left industry ten years ago with the intention to gain a skillset that would be of benefit to the arts when I returned – I have now come home to where I belong with six months to spare,” Tim says.

Rather than referring to corporate mission statements and the like to reflect core values, Tim says The Song Company’s people are its truest testament.

“I’ve noticed in particular their collegiality, peer respect and trust in the company, as well as a strong professional respect for diversity and demands within the group which makes the organisation what it is.”

And this year is a very busy one for the renowned vocal ensemble specialists!  Under the direction of Artistic Director, Antony Pitts, The Song Company are presenting a seven-concert subscription season ranging from Bach to Billie Holiday and the Pied Butcherbird, national and international touring opportunities and a multitude of ongoing popular and ever so important education programs. The Song Company was also recently named WBAC Arts Table partner for 2016 - a role we are told to ‘watch this space’ on.

When it comes to working in Walsh Bay, as a life-long sailor, Tim says it’s hard to beat the calming, sanity-saving affect of being located so close to water.

“The potential integration and immersion with the many high-profile arts companies in the precinct presents inspiring pathways for collaboration and unique opportunities for the members and patrons across the various organisations here,” he adds.
