The Transfield Art Collection is one of the major private collections of contemporary art in Australia, not necessarily in value - although it does contain pieces of significance - but more because it illustrates the journey of Transfield’s founder, Franco Belgiorno-Nettis, that is continued today by his sons Luca and Guido.

From the outset Franco Belgiorno-Nettis' vision for the arts in Australia was ahead of its time. After founding Transfield in 1956 he initiated the Transfield Art Prize in 1961, in its day the most expensive acquisitive contemporary art prize in Australia.

This month our ‘out of area’ profile is inspired by Sydney’s best-known and loved community events: Newtown Neighbourhood Centre’s Newtown Festival.

Standing the test of time the one-day event – this year on Sunday November 8, is running for the 37th time.

The Festival’s playful 2015 theme, ‘Newtopia’ is a celebration of what it means to ‘be’ Newtown and showcases the best local and national music, arts, entertainment, food and education.

Having only joined the STC in June, Jono says he’s proud of the many accomplishments made during this time but in particular the group’s technical and production departments successfully delivering; a sold out season of The Present, a theatrical marvel in Arms and the Man as well as another successful tour of The Wharf Revue –  at the Wharf this month for its fifteenth season.

Guests on the night will be treated to an exclusive taste test of the establishment’s modern Australian menu designed by executive chef Ashley Hughes and head chef Kay Huangprepared while sampling selected wines off an extensive list.

Launching as part of Good Food Month Pier One Sydney Harbour and the Gantry Bar and Restaurant will transform the Pier on Hickson Road into a festival of local eateries, regional produce stations, live entertainment, educational classes and ‘pop ups’ of famed wine regions.t5

Sydney Philharmonia Choirs recreate Gershwin’s 1931 Pulitzer Prize winning musical, Of Thee I Sing, in two Opera House performances on September 26 and 27 while Sydney Dance Company teams up with renowned songstress Katie Noonan and AC02 in Triptych from September 25.

Of Thee I Sing features four talented singer-actors, a choir of 400 and an orchestra playing Gershwin’s original orchestrations in collaboration with Sydney's most prolific music theatre company, Squabbalogic.
